Vilnius University Children Hospital (VUCH) has been established in 1944, and at that time had 100 beds. Our days VUCH is the main and biggest children hospital in Lithuania. It has 560 beds and full range of paediatric services, including neonatology, neonatal surgery, paediatric surgery, onkohematology, infectious diseases and other areas of paediatrics. It has five centres: Neonatology, Children Surgery, Orthopaedic and trauma, Paediatric Intensive Care, Oncohaematology, and Paediatric. VUCH provides a tertiary paediatric services and children from all Lithuania are sent to VUCH for treatment.
VUCH is the main teaching hospital for Vilnius University faculty of Medicine. Working as a clinical partner of the Faculty of Medicine, VUVL provides postgraduate training of resident students, continuing training in different areas of paediatrics and children surgery. There are working places for PhD students performing research in different areas of child’s health. VUCH is a partner in several national and international programmes on children’s health and research programmes.
VUCH NICU has an estimated number of about 50 Late onset Sepsis per year and about 3 cases of neonatal meningitis.
