Partner 2: Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesú (OPBG)

The Bambino Gesù Paediatric Hospital, Scientific Institute, belongs to the Holy See and it is specialized in children care. Founded in 1869, it is now part of the network of the Italian Healthcare System and it is a significant point of reference for paediatrics at the national and international levels.
With its 6 Directorates and 13 Departments, covering all aspects of paediatrics, the Hospital provides a complete range of healthcare services. In the last thirty years, its trademark has been the high level of specialization in the treatment of children, coming not only from Rome or Italy, but also from other Countries in Europe and worldwide. The yearly medical activities consist of 34,000 in-patient admissions, 100,000 out-patient clinics and 18,000 surgical procedures.
The Hospital clinical and surgical activities run side by side with its scientific research, aiming at a constant improvement of diagnostic procedures and therapeutical innovations. This high standard level is also maintained throughout close collaborations with several paediatric Institutions around the world.
The Hospital covers at 360 degrees paediatric medicine and surgery and its ongoing research activities address the following fields: Immunology, Clinical Immunology and Immunopathology; Oncology; Molecular genetics; Neurosciences; Transplantation; Non-embryonic stem cell differentiation and tissue engineering; Organization/management and quality assessment.
Research facilities are organized in modern laboratories, fully equipped with high-tech apparata, supporting post-genomics, proteomics, microarray technology, cell and molecular biology.
OPBG will coordinate the participation in Neomero of 4 NICUs in the Rome area, estimating to see about 150 Late onset Sepsis per year and about 8 cases of neonatal meningitis.
