Partner 8: Stichting Katholieke Universiteit - Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre (RUNMC)

The Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre (RUNMC) is a leading Dutch institution for medical research. The department of Paediatrics (headed by Professor Ronald de Groot) is a full-facility centre including NICU, a clinical paediatric infectious disease & immunology service (headed by Adilia Warris) as well as several paediatric research laboratories. The paediatric infectious diseases department and laboratory have a training program for both clinical and research fellows in paediatric infectious diseases and immunology and hosts 20 PhD-students working mostly in the laboratory. The Laboratory of Paediatric Infectious Diseases (headed by professor Peter Hermans) focuses translational research by exploring host pathogen interaction mainly to development of biomarkers to diagnose and monitor infectious diseases, and on the development of vaccines to prevent infections. Our clinical research is focussed on medication trials in children and adolescents, (neonatal) sepsis, paediatric HIV/AIDS, primary immunodeficiency’s, opportunistic infections. The Clinical Research Unit within our department is well equipped to perform such trials and is integrated with the clinical research pharmacy group (David Burger PharmD PhD).
Ronald de Groot has been involved in much international collaboration, including multi-site international medication trials. David Burger has participated in numerous paediatric trials and pharmacokinetic studies with antiretroviral agents including studies by the European PENTA network.
This partner will participate and contribute to the work packages WP3 (meningitis trial implementation) and WP5 (PK study and data analysis).
